I found it a great story. I've really enjoyed many of those OTL pieces. The skepticism is not my take; its not like Aikens went Al Sharpton and was demanding attention, he's not trying to get his face out there; demanding the George Brett treatment. He's a guy doing the grunt work and trying to come to grips with modern life and the daughters he's missed while incarcerated.

I burned out on these stories in 1985.

Sam Mellinger of the KC Star did the same story last fall, so this story did nothing for me. I think Joe Poz has also written about Aikens' road to recovery.

I think Aikens will be on the straight/narrow from here on out. I'll admit that I'm rooting for him as well.

14 years in the hole is a looooong time to think about your choices.

Good story. I thought it was well done because, among other reasons, it didn't proclaim or predict that its subject would be clean forever. Such predictions are dangerous.
