Per CBS News. I guess retirement didn't agree with hm.

Guess his clock stopped ticking.

Didn't take long after retirement, did it? I'd read he'd fallen ill (or something) and wondered if he knew it was coming.

RIP

Saddened. Learned a lot from his books. RIP to a gifted writer.

I think that this is akin to Charles Shultz, who quit when he couldn't draw Peanuts anymore and died a month or so later. Rooney only quit because he knew he was very sick. He didn't fall ill and fade away due to retirement.

Joe Paterno, take note.

Bear Bryant syndrome. You retire, you die...

Maybe not.

I guess heaven needed more than a few minutes with Andy Rooney. RIP to a man who, surely unknown to many (or at least me), had a distinguished writing career (and the guts to lose his job when not allowed to have a scathing commentary on Vietnam aired) before 60 Minutes. Sure he became the stereotype of the angry old man. But someone who cared whether there was actually a Mrs. Smith behind Mrs. Smith's pies is OK by me.

He died doing what he loved ... being a crotchety old ****.

RIP.

Didn't he die on the last day his comic strip appeared?

And Andy apparently died from complications following minor surgery. RIP to a guy who loved to tell stories. I always tuned in to the last five minutes of 60 Minutes, just to see what he would talk about. I haven't had a grandparent for almost a decade, so this was the next best thing.

For the last couple years I'd shake my head watching him -- what was that? -- but when he wasn't in an episode for whatever reason, I missed him. RIP
