I just filed a second-day story from an auto dealership.

My wheel rim froze after driving through snow, ****ed my rear brakes up to the point where they had to be replaced, I shredded a tire and the rim had to be replaced. I'm out around $700. That doesn't count my hotel as I stayed an extra night to get my car fixed.

Please revel with me in my "I'm financially ****ed!" celebration!

The biggest upset is that the auto dealership is an ongoing concern.

Insurance? Expense account?

I thought we'd be doing that for Mike311gd first, but whatever floats your canoe ...

There are few things worse than unexpected car repair costs. I feel your pain Bubbler. My O2 processor conked out, followed by the timing belt a month later. Goodbye budget, hello additional credit card debt.

Do you drive a Fiat or a Le Car?

Seriously, though, that really sucks.

Perhaps a Yugo?

And, as an aside, I've filed from car dealerships several times this year alone. I used to take the laptop, eat lunch and work on a story while waiting for them to change my oil. Great way to kill an hour or so.

Well I made it home. I wouldn't wish automotive difficulties seven hours away from home on anyone.

George: My father had a car salesman buddy. He was gonna fix him up real nice. Next thing I know, I’m gettin’ dropped of in a Le Car with a fabric sunroof. All the kids are shoutin’ at me, "Hey, Le George! Bonjour, Le George! Let’s stuff Le George in Le Locker!"

How does a wheel rim freeze?

That's just what they were calling it where I was, I don't know if it has another name or what.

What happens is snow and ice builds up within the brake hardware or the wheel bearings, etc. I had driven to my destination through a veritable blizzard on Saturday.

In my case, the ice, snow, sand, salt, etc., re-froze overnight from Saturday to Sunday, the accumulation of the ice and the falling temps broke the brakes apart, and the pieces fell into the wheel base somehow, preventing the right rear wheel from turning. Based on what I read, the ice can also break your wheel bearings in the same way. It's a problem with Dodge Neon's, which is what I drove.

So its frozen literally, the snow and ice caused the problem, but its also frozen figuratively in the sense that the wheel couldn't move.

I've never had it happen or had heard of it either, and since I didn't know what the hell was going on myself when the problem manifested itself on Sunday morning, I blew my right rear tire trying to accelerate my way out of the problem and damaged the rim in the process. I can't believe I made it the 10 miles from my hotel to my game yesterday.

I'm lucky. Those bad boys could have given out in the bum**** cornland I drove through and I would've been ****ed. They could have given out and sent me hurtling into the ditch, a tree or another car. I actually had a dream the other night where I went flying into a group of trees, but woke up before I hit any of them.

Anyway, pray it doesn't happen to you, it's a ***** to get fixed, especially when you're seven hours from home, though I will say that dealership treated me right.

You're kind of spoiling the absurdity level of this thread, Bubbler. I was all set to make a joke about the rim being frozen because of a broken Johnson Rod, and post this picture of your oh-so-honest mechanics...

You're just no fun, man. None. At. All.

Johnson rod will run you $150 plus labor.

Not only is the Johnson Rod fully extendable, but it is also .5" greater in girth than any competitor's Johnson Rod. Please install Johnson Rod between 70-90f, as cold weather will cause it to contract.

;D

Any chance that Chrysler has a service bulletin out on this? They might cover part of the repair, especially since it involves the brakes (a "safety" item).

Otherwise, that sucks, Bubbler.

I'd check with them sooner rather than later about this.

It was this or a cheap joke about Johnson rods, which sound redundant.
I guess it was both.
