Tonight's freak show from Charleston is underway.
DEANNA (and DON'T YOU SAY IT WRONG) needed to be smacked.

Even the decent tryout singers sound like they're just singing notes rather than songs. The field is pretty thin without the back stories.

How did this dude's wife already have a baby and out of the hospital?

I asked my wife the same thing.
I hope for Fox's sake, that wasn't done for TV. I hope someone in Youth Services in Charleston is asking that as well.

I'm biased since my folks are in Charleston, but I thought Idol kind of hung South Carolina out to dry. They didn't play up the weirdos in San Diego the other night nearly as much, IMO.

They always **** with the Southerners ...

But only 23 of 10,000 made it?
Sounds like a different talent pool between the 2 cities.
That is not a slam against Charleston, honest.

IIRC, in the last few auditions in different cities they have ended up taking around 25 every time. In Charleston it looked like there would be single-digit winners until the very end.

It was a shame, there were more than a couple that had decent voices that could be worked with, but they were too concerned about being flashy.

I couldn't believe they took that teenage abstinence chick but not the pilot ...

Pilot chick made a terrible song choice. She sang "Black Velvet" as if she were doing "You Light Up My Life."

Exactly. At some point these people might get it that just because Mom or Grandma think they have a good voice and can sing anything means that they can.

The guy whose wife went into labor was named OLIVER HIGHMAN! Say it out loud. Those were some seriously cruel and/or ignorant parents.
