Active shooter at Garlic Festival

I imagine they were on site for the event - but yeah, I'm sure that was about the last thing they thought they'd have to deal with at the festival. I'm working a booth at a county fair this week. And yeah, I'll be giving an extra glance to everyone wearing camo or a MAGA hat.

The gun rights crowd says these things always happen in a "gun free zone" and those laws don't work and, I guess, that if the would-be shooter thought he might be gunned down by heroic civilians before he shot many people, I'd think better of pulling a stunt like that.

Seems to me, if somebody considers whether or not a place is a "gun free zone" before deciding whether or not to shoot anyone there, that assumes that the would-be mass shooter is a rational person.

Seems to me, that by definition, mass shooters are not rational people.

There were good guys and good gals with guns there. And three people still died and 10+ hurt.

Maybe it’s the guns after all ...?
Please don’t think for a second I’m saying guns are the answer to the violence. I was just giving some love to the GPS for the best of a horrible situation.

See IMHO police are a deterrent but they cannot stop bad behavior if someone wants to do something bad. You can arm the police to the teeth and we still have this; it’s OUR job to stop this crap.

There are heroes all around us every day, we need to celebrate them more than the damn shooters (give if you can):

WENDY TOWNER!! SHOUT HER NAME FROM THE ROOFTOPS!! Drown out the name of the perp.

This one has been passed around my Facebook feed. I've got to stop reading these stories when my living room is so dusty. She was incredible.

I haven't read if they've identified the officers who put the shooter down, but I imagine they won't be buying beer in Gilroy or Morgan Hill for a while.

Epic sidebar here ...

The granddaughter of one of the workers likely saved the life of the couple’s 3-year-old son.

"Thank god for Madison," Sedillo said. "That 10-year-old little girl saw him running towards his parents on the ground, snatched him up, dragged him under the table and laid on top of him to shield him. That’s the bravest thing I’ve ever heard."

Gilroy PD and the FBI are giving a newser now and they've named the officers involved.

Not sure that's the best move.
