OK, so a Sonic opened near my home about a year ago, and usually I grab something at the drive-thru on my way to work or wherever.

The other night I went and parked there to eat with myy wife and daughter.

We ordered and the car hop came with our food.

I paid and she left.

Suddenly it hit me, and I asked my wife, "Should I have tipped her?'

So I ask my SJ brethern: Anybody out there tip Sonic car-hops?

I haven't been to a Sonic in probably ten years. I don't think we tipped her, then again, I think it was a friend of a friend.

We've been down this road before.

Sonic employees do not make a waitstaff wage, they make full minimum wage (at least). There is no need to tip them.

Personally, I only tip at Sonic if they're on roller skates.

Before I clicked, I knew this would be the question.

If you pay by credit card at Sonic, there is no line to write in a tip. You be the judge.

I always tip. If they're schlepping it to my car in the summer heat or winter cold, they get a bonus from me.

Sorry to have dredged up an already-beaten-to-death topic, but I didn't know the answer, and I figured maybe some other Sonic newbies (or SportsJournalists.com newbies, for that matter) might learn something from my curiosity.

Here's something to learn from your curiosity: Sonic's onion rings suck if you don't eat them when they're piping hot.

is 30 feet technically schlepping?
no tipping here. geez. you tip the kid at burger king that holds your food out the window? what if you have to pull up and wait for fresh fries and someone brings it to your car? nope.

This is the correct answer.

Is Sonic fast food?
How long does it take to get your food?
Never been, always wondered.

It is the crack of fastfood.

When I was baching it one night, I went by Sonic......ordered a SuperSonic (two quarter-pound patties) with cheese, ketchup, pickles, mustard, chili, bacon and jalapenos.....An Extreme Tater Tots(Big-ass tray full of tatertots, topped with chili, nacho cheese, ranch dressing, and jalapenos)........and a 44 oz. Cherry Limeade.

Oof.

When I finally took a **** 4 days later, it was like Hiroshima.
