There's been a lot of rain along the Gulf Coast already this week, so flooding will certainly be an issue. But anyone paying attention to this year's weather shouldn't be complaining too much about a nice rain dumper in June when we're normally heading into the dry season. Especially since we haven't had much rain this spring.

I'm not starting a Pacific hurricane typhoon thread, so this goes here.

Super Typhoon Bavi is crushing Guam and the Northern Marianas Islands, which are U.S. territories. Winds at 180 mph, so a category 5 hurricane. Another super typhoon hit the same area in April and killed 17 people and did $1.5 billion in damage.

Got a depression forming up along the Gulf Coast that's going to take a ride down I-10. Looks right now like it'll only be a tropical storm, though. And just on the other side of it to the north it's going to be close to 100 degrees all week with a heat index of 110-115. So basically, if you live in Mississippi or Louisiana there's going to be a spot right along that boundary that's essentially the surface of Venus.

Would like that to take a little turn to the north. But at the same time I remember having to pay the deductible for the last tropical storm that finished off my roof. The builders did a **** job at the beginning but the insurance did pay for 25-year architectural shingles so mad props

Being serious for a moment, my guess is they expect total losses to be greater from a named storm, so that’s a way of holding down their payouts. But, damn, it’s bad optics.
