The Blue Jays' use of the bench cost them in both extra inning games. I get their intentions, but if you are taking out your best players to win the game, you have to win the game in those moments.
Not only did the runner for Bichette not score, then Bichette didn't come up in the 11th with no outs and a runner on second. He's up they don't bunt there and maybe don't waste an out. Take Kirk out in the 18-inning game to score, don't, and have to use a catcher for a really long time who hadn't even stepped to the plate since the middle of September and ened up having four at bats in the most important of times.
I'm not sure how much I criticize the baserunning in game 6. You can't get doubled up there but I'm not sure there was a person in the building or watching who thought that ball was going to get caught. They were clearly playing shallow to cut off the run and ended up with a double play. I wonder if that play had something to do with the lead at third last night because they didn't want it to happen again, whereas in almost any baseball situation you lead big there and win the game. In the end it's a terrible baserunning look by the Blue Jays in multiple of the most important of situations.
Overall, the Blue Jays were just terrible with runners on. Two lead-off doubles late last night with no runs, the bases loaded with no outs with no runs, second and third in the sixth with no runs. Some of that is the Dodgers defense, which was great, but no runs in all of those situations is crazy.
