Trading a third round pick to get an older, average-ish QB seems like an odd move. Without having the time to look at stat lines, I imagine Smith was the better QB this year, but has less upside overall than Cousins. I don't think the move from one to the other is the difference between making and not making the playoffs for an otherwise good team.

I'm guessing they are planning to draft someone. Smith and a first rounder would still be less than what they would have had to pay Cousins to stay.

Just saw a report they agreed to a four-year extension, so he'll be signed for five years.
Unless they cut him. Looking at the guarantee of 71, buys you a couple seasons, though if a draft pick wins the job, they could cut Smith and figure they are still within the cap budget for the QB position. Usually no higher than $30m (but its going up).

Everyone but Fuller says it's Fuller. Knowing the Redskins, everyone but is right.
