Less than a week until the nominations come out, and the chatter is in full force by now.

Here's a good list of potential Best Picture nominees:

I haven't seen as many of these as I'd like to due to life circumstances, but I have seen both "The Master" and "Moonrise Kingdom." I loved both of them, but I think that "The Master" will be nominated and "Moonrise Kingdom" will be left out. "The Master" will get the "Tree of Life" slot for a challenging movie by a respected director.

"Lincoln" gets this year's "Blind Side"/"The Help" memorial slot for a movie about white people saving the day for black people. Unlike the other two, however, I bet it wins. The rest of the list seems pretty solid. I could see "Amour" getting shut out, though. Critics love it, but they loved "A Separation" last year, too.

There's been some buzz lately about "Skyfall" earning a nomination.

Oh, also, it's remarkable how quickly "The Hunger Games" fell off the awards radar. I remember when it first came out, and critics were swept up in the buzz, it was getting rave reviews and looked like a potential blockbuster awards breakthrough.

Hopefully now people have come to their senses and realized that it was a big pile of suck.

I liked The Hunger Games a lot, but on no level is it an "Oscar movie"...

Moonrise Kingdom will get a lot more love than The Master.

I'm curious to see if Skyfall gets a Best Picture nod. It might.

That's because typically, "Oscar movies" suck.

Then maybe "The Hunger Games" should be nominated!

I think The Master might get an acting nod or two, but I don't really expect it to be nominated for Best Picture unless they nominate 9 or 10...

I'm guessing these will be the ones considered...

Argo
Lincoln
Zero Dark Thirty
Les Miserables
Silver Linings Playbook
Moonrise Kingdom
Django Unchained
Life of Pi
Beasts of the Southern Wild
The Hobbit

I've only seen Lincoln, Argo and Moonrise Kingdom and I liked Argo best of those three.

Skyfall is one of the best movies I've seen this year. I'd be stunned if it's nominated for Best Picture...

According to EW, the favorites for each acting category are:

Actor: Day Lewis as a lock to win. I don't disagree.

Actress: Chastain in Zero Dark Thirty or Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook

Supporting actor (wide open): Waltz for Django; DeNiro for Silver Linings Playbook, Hoffman for The Master, Tommy Lee Jones in Lincoln.

Supporting actress: Sally Field for Lincoln and Hathaway for Les Mis.

See I feel like Silver Linings Playbook is going to win, which for me would be yet another Oscar BP disappointment. Not on the level of Gump, but more like a meh, 'Shakespeare In Love' kind of year.

I have a hard time thinking the Academy actually bestows some love on Tarentino (although Pulp Fiction got nominated I believe.)

I think it will be between Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty for Best Picture and Director. Argo and Life of Pi in the mix for picture. Affleck and Ang Lee as darkhorses to Spielberg and Bieglow for director.

I think the Oscars have been decent to Tarantino... Basterds was nominated, Waltz won for supporting actor. Tarantino won for his screenplay for Pulp Fiction. I think even Forster was nominated for Jackie Brown... I agree Pulp should have beaten Gump and Travolta should have beaten Hanks, but it's not like his movies are being ignored...

It sounds like the most buzz out there is for Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty with Silver Linings as a darkhorse to win best picture. The two best movies I've seen this year were Argo and Django. I loved Django and I would like to think it will get serious consideration but have a feeling it gets left out. I haven't seen Zero Dark Thirty yet but excited to check it out and I still want to see Life of Pi as well. Lincoln was good but while DDL absolutely deserves the best actor nod, that movie is not the best movie of the year. If The Hobbit gets a nom, the whole thing is a joke. Honestly, The Avengers is more deserving of a nom than The Hobbit.

Also, I'd give the Supporting Actor nod to Waltz in a heartbeat. Actually, you could make the case that he should be in the best actor category. In a cast full of great actors putting on great performances, Waltz stole the show once again, in my opinion.

I didn't think Waltz was all that great in Django. His performance in Inglorious Basterds was one of the greatest I've ever seen, but he was just OK in Django (or maybe IB just set the bar too high). Still, I thought Foxx and DiCaprio were far better.

I wouldn't be surprised if Arkin gets some love for Best Supporting Actor. He was awesome in Argo, and he's always a voter favorite.

And I keep hearing that Zero Dark Thirty is the best film of the year, though I agree with someone on another thread who said that voters' hand-wringing over the torture scenes might keep it from being named Best Picture. If that's the case, Silver Linings Playbook might sneak in and win.

Agree to disagree, I suppose. I just thought Waltz was hilarious in Django yet still sold me on the fact that despite his humorous notes he was still a pretty ruthless killer.

I haven't seen Django, but most of the people I know who have, think DiCaprio should be nominated for best supporting actor. I read somewhere that Weinstein is pushing Waltz in the supporting category since everyone knows DDL is going to win for Lincoln.

I don't think Lincoln should be nominated in the Best Picture category. I realize it will be... I've probably seen fewer movies this year than in any previous year since I've been an adult, but I think Lincoln at best is a B- or a C+ and that's from someone who usually loves those kind of movies...

I think Day-Lewis is great and will deserve to win if he does... I think Sally Field's performance was a bit over the top and Tommy Lee Jones is essentially playing Tommy Lee Jones...
