2010 World Series Thread

Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

Interesting factoid - with the Cubs at 1 and the Indians at 2, the team with the third longest World Series drought now is.....the Texas Rangers/Washington Senators at 50 years (since their inception).

Anybody mention Mike Ivie, Max Venable, Gary Thomason, Gary Alexander, Solomon Torres or Steve Bedrosian, Bill Lasky, Bob Knepper or Kelly Downs?

Brian Wilson: "I'm feeling like I want to rage. Right now."

Seriously, that guy is going to kill someone someday. And he probably won't stop at one.

Sitting in the pub 1/2 the TVs on WS half on MNF. I'm watching baseball, my buddy is kind of going back and forth from football to baseball. He looks up in the bottom of the ninth, close-up on Wilson:

"The ****ing guy definitely has body parts buried in his basement."

I don't know. He looks more like the bassist in a band who looks all bad ass but is secretly gay. His beard looks like the logical extension of Freddie Mercury's 'stache.

Only partially b/c I hate OOP and want to make Trey Beamon cry...an incomplete list of recent ex-Pirates to win the World Series:

2010: Freddy Sanchez
2009: Eric Hinske
2008: Matt Stairs
2007: Tim Wakefield
2006: Jeff Suppan
2005: Damaso Marte
2004: Bronson Arroyo

Suck it Pirates!!! :D :D :D

His bio in the Giants media guides lists his offseason hobbies as "killing hobos."

Time of Game: 2:32

I was wondering if that was just a mirage. When was the last time a World Series game ended in 2 1/2 hours?
When spring training rolls around, they should gather the Yankees in the clubhouse and show them a tape of this game, the same way they show car crash videos to drivers ed students.

Game 1: 3:36
Game 2: 3:17 (would have been under three if not for the Rangers' bullpen meltdown)
Game 3: 2:51
Game 4: 3:09
Game 5: 2:32

Except for the first game, the whole series moved along nicely. Very refreshing for a change.

Oh, and ...

CHRIS SPEIER!

TOM LAMPKIN!

MARK GARDNER!

CANDY MALDONADO!

MIKE IVIE!

Forgive me if you've already seen this. I posted it on the NLCS thread after tracking down the inside joke referenced during an NLCS post-game interview. This is in reference to Wilson's comments about the machine. Pay close attention to the screen during this interview. It think it's safe for work...

That's awesome.

Disturbing. But awesome.

Something that caused me to laugh out loud last night at work:

The game is winding down. Buck and McCarver are searching for ways to show how long it's been since 1954.

A graphic pops on the screen, and Buck does his duty and reads how in 1954, "there were no teams west of the Mississippi."

Uh ... I can think of one, Joe. Your father was the announcer for them!

That bugged the heck outta me too. Someone in the graphics dept. failed geography.
