$2.46 !!!

Re: $2.47 !!!

A little perspective:

In 1980 the average car was $6,000, a Corvette was $12,000 and gas was $1.30 a gallon.

Now the average car is $25,000+, a Corvette is $50,000+ and gas is $2.50 a gallon.

Even at $3 a gallon, its rate of increase is much less than the prices of the vehicles that it is poured into. And there are many more fuel-efficient cars available today than were available in 1980.

And to answer somebody's question:

I haven't been overseas for a little while admittedly, but which country has better gas prices than we do?

Venezuela: 14 cents per gallon.

Iraqis were paying only 4 cents a gallon in 2003. They're paying 40 cents a gallon today.

I think some of you are missing the point here. Pretty sure football_bat's purpose in pointing out that gas in his area is at $2.47 wasn't to insinuate he's gonna go joyriding around town for the next four hours or to say that he's particularly thrilled over $2.47 a gallon.

However, $2.47 is a helluva lot better than $3.47, which is what we were pretty close to not a month or so back. It's OK to be happy about that. Doesn't mean we're all gonna rush to the pumps and start bathing in the stuff. Just means we get to keep a bit more of our paycheck for important ****, like, you know, groceries and porn rentals.

Yeah, it sucks that it still costs damn near three times as much as it did when Fredo took over. How people don't see the correlation there, I have no idea.

It's true, you figured out.

This was Bush's plot with the oil companies: Raise prices so it hurts the economy, thus hurting the GOP's chances in the off-year elections and causes Bush's approval ratings to drop.

A brilliant plan.

Here in our blue state, it's still $2.90.

****ers.

Well that could be because of ...

A. Evil right-wing petro-conspiracy
B. Higher taxes in your blue state.

Hmmm. Which could it be?

Thank you for pointing out B. I think sometimes that gets lost in this whole gas-price complaint.

Yeah, the gas prices, that's what caused his approval ratings to fall. Without those high gas prices, top of the mountain.

2.91 here. But I'm in an environmentally-conscious state. Or so they tell me; it's hard to believe with water and Snapple bottles lining the road.

Snapple, the best stuff ON Earth.

Oh, and it's $2.59 in my hometown, $2.79 where I am a little closer to the middle of RSN General Hospital.

I sort of disagree.

Americans were just starting to warm up to the idea of using less, if not by going out and getting more fuel efficient car, then by:

1. Driving less - combining errands, deciding they could walk 2 blocks, deciding they didn't need to go.

2. Carpooling - if not to work, then with their buddies to the local links or watering hole.

3. Driving slower - and thinking about how they drive - less accelerating down hills only to brake for the car in front of them.

Now all that starts to go out the window. Psychologically, you start to think: At 2.47, I can afford to relax and be lazy again.

Re: $2.47 !!!

I don't think this price reduction will put a huge dent in the recent consumers' choices. People who were starting to cut back will keep cutting back. They've seen what the prices can do, and I think they'll be hedging their bets in a different direction for the time being.

Re: $2.47 !!!

Exxon less than 1/4 mile from my house is still $3.09 for regular.

Re: $2.47 !!!

I saw it last night for $2.39 on my way to a football game. There's a station on I-64 near Louisville that has it for $2.29.

Re: $2.47 !!!

I just did the math as I looked over last month's finances. In the past 15 days I've spent $79 in gas. That's more than I've spent on groceries. Damn.

Now that's some funny ****. Sad. But effin funny.

Re: $2.47 !!!

It's $2.51 at a few places around here, but you can't get anywhere near the pumps.

Re: $2.47 !!!

Lowest in the region is 2.41, but lowest that I've actually seen myself is 2.49. This time last year it was 3.17.

Re: $2.47 !!!

Yeah, we're just under $3 here... They made a big deal on the news about one place that was at $2.89...

I think they may stay down for awhile. Gas companies know that if the price goes up much more, there will be more of a demand to look into other means for fuel and whatnot...

Checked (fill in your town or state)gasprices.com, there's a couple of places near here selling at 2.39. Cheapest in the state is 2.30 last I looked.
