This news took me back 15 years, when I'd have a regular kitchen-table game with coworkers, make the occasional run to a live game at the Florida dog and horse tracks and pretty much be watching WSOP/WPT the rest of the time -- not unlike a lot of dudes my age. Then kids came along and that was essentially the end of my poker life. But Sexton's voice marked that period.

Accurate. In fact, it's so accurate that one night last winter, I happened to catch a WPT tournament on TV and it resparked my interest in playing. I made my way to the casino a few times and I was getting more back into it when COVID hit and killed off the idea of playing in a casino regularly. With the sudden rise of Zoom, I wound up creating a virtual poker room with my friends who all used to play together 15-20 years ago. Now we have a regular Monday night game, with a few new names and faces, and I've gotten quite a bit better at online poker. I think it will really help my casino game whenever that happens again, but more importantly, I reconnected with some old friends and we have a solid group of ball busters slinging chips.*

Anyway, that's a long way of saying RIP Mike Sexton. You will be missed.
