One thing I respect about the R&A is that they don't doctor a course the way the USGA does for the US Open. The Open courses are almost always in their natural state. Sure, they pushed the tee back on 17 and I ahve no problem with that. But they don't make the rough artificially long or the fairways extra narrow. One really gets an appreciation for what the course was like many years ago.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I love the double greens. Makes for a unique challenge both on approach shots and when putting.

No, it's not a terribly difficult course when the weather is good. Didn't Woods shoot like 19-under when he won in 2000? But there's no other course in the world really like it.

A dark horse is on top of the leader-board. South African Louis Oosthuizen (no idea on pronunciation) leads the way with a -12. It'll be interesting to see if this guy can hold on for a Y.E. Yang-type victory or if a well-known golfer will overtake him.

Watching this with the wind up to 40 mph is going to be quite entertaining. Especially on the greens and everyone taking forever to hit hoping not to address the ball and have the ball move because of the wind.

I don't really have a strong enough opinion on the subject, but since the Masters, there does seem to be a double standard in the media between "good family guy" Phil and "bad cheating" Tiger.

So when Tiger hacks it up in the first round of a major, or any tournament for that matter, the media jumps all over him because he's the No. 1 golfer if the world, or he cheated on his wife? And because Phil, the No. 2 golfer in the world who continues to knock on the door but can't find the knob, doesn't cheat on his wife, the media is OK with the fact that he can skip out without talking to reporters after placing 74th through one day?

Something about that doesn't sit well with me.

And Tiger starts bogey-bogey and is nine back on a course where making up shots is going to be next to impossible unless you make some putts, and the putter has been killing him of late.
