READING, Pa. -- Production of York Peppermint Patties and other candy brands is coming to an end at The Hershey Co. plant in Reading, Pa.

After 23 years in Reading, the chocolate maker is closing the plant Friday and moving production to a new factory it has built in Monterey, Mexico. It will mean the loss of 300 jobs in the southeastern Pennsylvania city.

If you haven't already been boycotting Hershey products, please start now.

Hershey's chocolate over the past years has become so bitter as to be inedibile.

I wonder if a viral boycott would have any effect.

If I abandon every company that makes a product I use at a plant/factory/sweatshop outside the U.S., I'm not going to be able to buy much.

It sucks that those people are losing their jobs, no doubt, but it's not going to stop me from buying a York Peppermint Patty if I want one.

I haven't had a york peppermint patty in 15 years and it looks like its going to stay that way. I might have a hard time giving up Hershey Special Dark however

Has anyone ever said, hey, I want a York Peppermint Patty?

Nope? Never? That's what I thought.

Are those those little things they have at restaurant cashier counters? There's usually a plastic thingy for a donation.

Anyway, this means a good number of Mexicans will have new jobs, which might keep them from coming into this country illegally in search of work. The world is flat. Or something.

Special Dark is crack for me.

I say that at least twice a week. There's always a stash around my house.

Sometimes those have off-brand peppermint patties. Accept no substitute over York.

Trivia: More miniature York patties are sold in Cincinnati than anywhere else. 'Cause Skyline Chili (yum) sells them at the cashier counter and for some reason those really hit the spot after chili.

But what would you do for a Klondike bar?

I would probably kill a man.

You realize I said Klondike bar and not Klon-dyke - right?

I wish you would have told me that before I stabbed a guy after work.

Hell yeah. When I was a kid, the local bowling alley used to have a box of the five-cent ones on the counter. Like crack, they were.

So how long before Americans start illegally immigrating to Mexico in search of jobs?
That'll show 'em.

I boycotted Anheuser-Busch after it shut down the Rolling Rock plant in Latrobe.

The York closure, though, does nothing for me. Still, it sucks to see 300 people lose their jobs.
