Apologies if this thread has been created before; however, with watching Dak injure his ankle today, I was wondering what is the worst pro sports injury you’ve seen in real time(live or on tv as it happened) in your lifetime?

Theismann, not even close.

Of course, auto racing is its own separate category. Saw a couple of guys get really, really messed up. Was never at an event where someone died.

Tim Krumrie's shredded knee in Super Bowl XXIII was pretty bad.
Napoleon McCallum's broken leg a few years later in a Raiders-49ers Monday night game still gives me some shivers.

Do we need to dig up video with these?

It's Theismann. It's not even close to the next one at No. 10. And do not post any videos.

Alex Smith was pretty damn close.

Gordon Hayward isn't on the same level but it was pretty gruesome.

I didn't see Smith.

Fair enough. I'm too young for Theisman so it's Smith for me.

In trying to remember Hayward's injury (I was trying to remember if it was an ankle or a fibula) I came across Kevin Wear. I'm not sure what I was doing to not remember watching that one, but I'm sure it would have stuck with me if I had.

It's quasi-sports, but there was a skateboarder in the X Games who lost control of his board on a high ramp and fell 40 feet straight down. His shoes blew off when he hit the bottom of the ramp. He wound up being OK, somehow, after a few days in the hospital but it was one of two times watching sports on TV where I thought I saw someone die. The other was Ryan Newman's wreck in this year's Daytona 500.

Theismann
Alex Smith
McCallum-I still remember watching that live on MNF.
Dravecky
Jason Kendall
Kevin Ware- I felt physically ill watching that.
Shaun Livingston dislocating his kneecap a few years back was bad.

I've thought about this one before and other than Theismann, the worst I've seen was the Jason Kendall fracture running up the baseline.

He was never really the same player afterward. It wrecked his speed. The thing that gave him extra value as a catcher.
