Why include this in a story?

I don't have a problem with it. Age and occupation help give some context to random names in a story.
 
This is one of those things that we were taught in journalism school: Ask for the person's name, age, town of residence and occupation.

Then it became one of those things that you were taught in journalism school that didn't actually happen in real journalism.

It's better than the stupid stories on Yahoo that just insert random quotes by Bob Smith on Facebook and Jane Smith on Twitter. Can journalism get any lazier?
