The Giants are pretty warm and fuzzy (aside from their PBJ-spewing defensive end) and Coughlin has capped his contempt of all those around him long enough to make it work.

Barring another expansion team in the NFL, Coughlin is done in the league after this year. He strikes me as the next Pete Carroll, without, of course, the efferviscent personality.

Exactly. He'd go over like selling porn out of the Baptist bookstore.

Meanwhile, people who should have enough sense to know better keep insisting Saban is in play, despite the fact that he has conjugated the phrase "I'm not coming" in every possible permutation. Mostly, I think it is Jimmy Sexton trying to see if he can be the first agent ever to get a raise for a last-place NFL coach by keeping Saban's name in print.

I caught some of Hoover's *****-slapping in the state title game and the announcers repeated the Propst/UAB or Bama OC rumor. In that regard, the OC at Arkansas has opened minds to that possibility, but this is still Alabama. I seriously doubt Propst will even be the OC there. On the other hand, if he takes the UAB job, he won't have to move ...

As was mentioned on another thread about this, Cutcliffe's health likely takes him out of the running, though he very well could be the best candidate left. I was thinking about Coughlin last week, but I think the way the Giants are absolutely falling apart probably doesn't gild him in Tide nation.

Propst's arrogance has seriously alientated virtually every high school coach in Ala. I'd be surprised if he got in the mix for the UAB job. He certainly won't be in the mix for the UA job.
But High School Arrogance becomes Division-I swagger...

I think Rush Propst is full of Rush Propst, but I would think he'd be a good hire...

From the AP story on Hoover's loss in the title game today:

Having built what he referred to as a "dynasty" at Hoover, Propst said he already has had "indirect" contact with UAB about the head coaching job vacated by Watson Brown.

Propst also mentioned the possibility of becoming offensive coordinator at Alabama, which is looking for a head coach, or at Auburn if Al Borges leaves.

Five titles and two-runner-ups is close to a dynasty to me...
And he;s hired an agent to deal with the college jobs...
But since there's no head coach at Bama, the OC talk is nothin but pure Rush pomposity

I hate to say it, but Bama really needs to hire Saban. Whatever they pay him will be well worth it. I don't give a **** if it's $10 million a year. It'll be worth it in the long run.

And let me tell you why. What has killed that program more than anything else is the hiring of incompetent people who have one qualification -- Bear Bryant once spoke to them. It's insane the number of people who work in that athletic department who have no identifiable skills. These dopes are basically no different than the nuttiest of the UA fans -- they all believe it's 1975 and the Tide should be winning a national title every four years.

If they hire a guy like Saban, he comes in and immediately spots the problems. Because trust me, they're not hard to see. Mike Shula spotted them inside a week. Saban would have them nailed down before his first presser was over. And with the power and control Saban would have, those worthless ****s would be gone. Once they're gone, they're gone for good, because nobody in their right mind would hire any of these people to do anything of any importance in an athletic department.

I don't see it happening, though. Mainly because I think what I've said above played a big part in Saban not taking the job in the first place. (And yeah, those negotiations were much farther along than "they talked to Jimmy and Jimmy asked me and I said no.") If it's not a big-name coach, we can expect to have this discussion again in 2010, because no up-and-comer can overcome that athletic department. I don't give a **** how good he is.

Yawwwwn. Wake the rest of the country up when the good ole boys make a decision already. It was amusing for a few days. Now, no one gives a **** about Alabama or Bear Bryant or Forest Gump. Except some dumpy fatass named Paul Feinbaum living in an era that ended before I was brought to this earth.

ROFL. Yeah. And Saban would turn Bama into an immediate NC contender, just like he's got the Dolphins on the brink of the Super Bowl.

I hope he tries it, because it might precipitate something about 40 years overdue: a team owner bringing a massive breach of contract lawsuit against a coach, and suing the agent for conspiracy of breach of contract, at the same time.

College teams can't ever lift a finger when coaches start jacking them around to troll for better jobs, ****ing up the future of the school's program by bailing out before the end of the season or bowl games, because "if they do, they will instantly become branded as a school which would stand in the way of a coach advancing his career, and you could never hire another coach, so no matter what happens, you can never ever lift a finger legally when a coach breaches a contract."

OK, that's fine, so colleges can never use that legal weapon when a coach is departing for a better job at a bigger school, or the NFL, because there is certainly no disputing he is, in fact, improving his career.

But here we got an NFL head coach, and director of football operations, threatening through his agent to jump to an NCAA job -- comparable to a guy managing in MLB threatening to jump to an AA or AAA managing job. There is no way to argue from a professional standpoint that the Alabama job is more prestigious than the Miami Dolphins.

And Wayne Huizenga doesn't have to worry if he sues the ever-loving **** out of Nick Saban and Jimmy Sexton, demanding treble damages to make sure to bankrupt the son of a ***** right down to the ground, and getting a binding injunction from a Florida-based federal court that will bar Nick Saban from coaching any football team above Pop Warner, until Huizenga damn well says he can, because Wayne Huizenga is the owner of the Miami Dolphins, and as such, he is the sole proprietor of one of the only 32 National Football League head coaching jobs in the world, so Wayne Huizenga could have Nick Saban and Jimmy Sexton executed at halftime at the 50-yard-line on national TV, and the next morning, he would still have 50 resumes on his desk for his NFL head coaching job.

Maybe that's the cannon shot needed to put the hammer on this bull****.

Star, why do you hate the Alabama media who would be forced to deal with Satan's control-freak bull**** that already has to improve an athletic department that has to improve to be embarrassing? America?

As word spreads of Gene Stallings practically asking to be hired on an interim basis to right the ship, there will be immense pressure from some corners to hire him. Not only did he coach Alabama to its last national championship, but he was and is the closest thing to the Bear the Crimson Tide have seen since 1982.

With all due respect JD, there has been no serious discussion of GS returning to UA. Not even remotely serious.

Sorry, busuncle. I am testing a new Beta version of a sarcasm font that is supposed to be more subtle and brilliant than the previous version, but clearly it has some bugs that need to be solved.

Or maybe I just need to stop drinking and posting.

Dog,
We hardly knew ye, but we miss you on the beat!

Having covered five seasons of Saban coaching at a college that needed some housecleaning and some clarity of leadership, I can say Alabama is not ready for what would hit the Capstone if the man who came to be known within the department (in whispers, while looking over one's shoulder) as "Prick Satan" showed up to coach the Crimson Tide.

dog speaketh much truth.

I remember a thread on this site entitled, "Best Place For an Ass-Kicking."

Nick Saban should have gone to each and every place mentioned. By himself. At midnight. And pissed somebody off.

No, the fault is mine. I think my online sarcasm detector can be dulled by drinking.

And the common theme in Johnny Dangerously and busuncle's posts is alcohol. Mmmmm, beer.

Swagger or not, if you **** off every coach in the state and then you have to recruit their players, that's not exactly an ideal situation, whether you're at UAB or UAT

Neither is John Cooper. He'd go 0-6 against Auburn, though. Maybe 1-5 against Tennessee.
