He was completely unharmed. Tried to punch one of the horses during one of the earlier races at the Preakness in 2002 or 2001. Drunk as he was, he missed the horse (which went on to win, incidentally) and another jockey managed behind it managed to steer clear.

He was arrested, but not hurt at all.

I'm a total doof because I only realized today that the Preakness in a major drinkathon.

Granted, I've never been to a horse race and only turn on the triple crown races right before they start.

But it seems to me that the coverage is more about fancy hats, dresses and rich people than drunk kids. Or was I missing something?

The Preakness is a huge drinking event for 20-somethings because of its proximity to the end of the school year. When I went to school in the Mid-Atlantic, bus trips were organized to go to the race. Although they went, the huge thing is "There are horses at this party?"
