George Romney resigned as governor of Michigan in January 1969.

I doubt there's a huge enough contingent of voters in the state who remember him in office (I do, somewhat) to make much of a difference in an election if Mitt is on the ballot.

Either Webb or Warner can swing Virginia, and if McCain can't hold the South together, he is toast. Warner is a rising star in the Dems, but Webb might have a longer reach nationally. Only down side is that with Webb, the whole ticket would be freshman senators and play into the GOP lack of experience claim.

Edwards-Bayh was a ticket floated a lot by pundits two years ago, and it scared the GOP to death because it would have taken two red states away.

Obama is looking at generals, particularly this guy James Jones (not the suicide cult guy):

Yeah, I'm not one to talk since I thought Pawlenty was from Penn. but Mitt is definitely not from Michigan, although I guarantee you the republicans wish he was.

This is right out of bizarro world.

Webb is as far as he needs to go -- or should go -- in this area.

Lets end this nonsense about finding a general. The whole using a running mate to reach a niche is getting ****ing ridiculous. In 2006, Maryland's governor ran for re-election with a blind woman as his running mate. She was in some lesser cabinet position and it was pandering to the hilt. So is the whole talk of picking a former general. Complete pandering and ass-covering. Pick someone who might make a good president in the future. Don't pick someone because it covers up a perceived flaw and that's ALL they do.

Yup. The political media are being really lazy by buying into this brand-marketing approach to VP-picking instead of calling bull****. And voters who buy into it are being idiots too. Pick a ****ing statesman, not a symbol. Jesus Christ.

Carlton Fisk should be able to carry New Hampshire and Vermont for either candidate (Pudge was actually born in Vermont). He could also bring over that all important Red Sox Nation vote.

Naw, Fisk annoyed the locals when he pulled a Giuliani and didn't run in the NH primary. ;D

Warner is making a run at the Senate in Virginia, I believe.

His vote in the Senate will be very valuable.

Virginia has a lot of potential political clout now, and if the VP can swing it demo, then it might be the most important state.

Phil Bredesen could swing Tennessee and help Obama in other places. Has fine progressive cred from his days as Nashville's mayor, and has been a solid moderate as Tennessee's governor. Can also carry a lot of water in the health-care-reform debate.

The two names that seem to be hot right now in DC are Webb and Biden. Both are home runs, IMO.

I think McCain picking Rick Santorum -- could swing about nine states Obama's way......

What's funny is, I've covered both of those senators, as well as some others. But those two are the absolute ****ing WORST when it comes to media relations. I like what they say, most of the time. But their press staffs can be as big a waste of tax dollars as a bridge to no where can be. Just the two worst.

Overall, I really like Biden's take on a lot of issues. I'm not a fan of how he operates in his home state, but I like his take on national and international issues. I also really like Webb. But Webb's media people are as worthless as Cheney's. I just had to say it, because it's true.
