Which state has the worst drivers?

Texas, Texas, Texas, Texas.

I-635 in Dallas, I-10 in Houston, I-35 in Austin ... take your pick. Each one is part of the circles of Hell.

I've never been to Illinois, so I couldn't offer an opinion there. New York City was awful ... cab drivers are total maniacs, but overall, Texas wins by a mile. It could sprinkle for six seconds and traffic will come to a complete halt. It's like they've never seen rain before.

It's a limited statistical sample, but I would vote for Texas based on personal experience.

Anecdotally, I'd say Boston area. But I'd guess florida would end up taking the cake in an objective survey.

It's not precise, but I would guess poor driving leads to accidents. And the more accidents occur in your state, the higher insurance premiums would tend to be.

And so, the list of the top five states by average insurance premium from a survey by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. The figures were taken for the duration of 2005, but it doesn't say if it was for a 6-month or year spell: New Jersey $1,184, New York $1,122, Massachusetts $1,113, Louisiana $1,076, Florida $1,063.

On the Pennsylvania Turnpike you could be doing 80 in the left hand lane and get passed like you're not moving by drivers on the right.

My top three are Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Connecticut.

I'm biased, but I think New York drivers -- the state as a whole, not just the city -- are OK. They're not the best, I'm sure. But they aren't bred to be moron drivers like Pennsylvanians. Sorry, Shot.

Connecticut drivers are nuts, and New Jersey sucks. The drivers don't help, either.

I used to think Maryland-D.C. drivers were bad, but like the people in NYC, it's dealing with the commute that causes recklessness. Once you get used to them, it's easy. The same probably goes with Connecticut and New Jersey drivers. But I see no excuse for Pennsylvanians. I'm not even thinking about Philly and Pittsburgh.

Rusty, I've lived where you lived ... in the same county, anyway ... but no region has worse drivers than the South. It's not even close.

I have lived in five places long enough to have formed a real opinion. Texas (DFW and San Antonio), Michigan, Florida and Connecticut.

The answer is Florida.

It is not even close.

To be fair, that would be South Florida. Rarely ventured above Orlando unless it was on an Interstate.

Now I live in the Midwest, and the overly-courteous, slow-as-**** drivers in, say, Indiana or Missouri, are far harder to deal with, in my opinion.

Worst drivers? I don't know.
Rudest? New York in a landslide.
Most creative? Texas. All those pickups and SUVs, those drivers believe they have the right to drive ANYWHERE. The fact that city or state planners actually paved a road somewhere is inconsequential.

Driving in Illinois, or in a state bordering Illinois, is taking your life in your hands.

I take offense to that. Us Kentuckians don't deserve to be lumped in with those damn noise makers.

I've driven around the Northeast, but nothing comes close to South Florida. It's crazy down there. Next fall I'll get to see what's it like in SoCal.

Obviously, Rusty's never seen an Alabama right turn -- which consists of you driving down the straight road with all of the right-of-way you want and not a car in front or in back of you for miles , except for that one beat-to-**** ride blocks in front of you that waits................ and waits ...................... and waits to pull out, finally doing so 300 feet before you hit the intersection at 45-to-60 miles per hour, then looks at you like you were from MArs when you lean on your horn and swear like Slappy because this driver is too oblivious to have a license.
