106K troops.
For 20 years.
Is a "longshot gamble."

Jesus wept.

Would now be a good time to ask our national press why no one reports on the "enduring" (read: permanent) bases we're building in Iraq?

Fellas, we're still in Germany.
You really didn't think we'd still be in Iraq 20 years from now?
The part about it being a "longshot gamble" is one man's opinion.
Once upon a time, one or two in the current administration were of the opinion that this whole Iraq thing would be easy.

Yes, yes, I know, and the Vietnamese are now swimming at our base in Cam Ranh Bay. However, while we still have troops in Germany, we are not running Germany. This guy is talking about, essentially, a 20-year occupation.

Returning from the Whole Other Level to which bibbler and I took the thread, turns out there isn't going to be a written report at all.

We are all such suckers.

Let's be fair.
There was a prominent Democratic politician of whom that could be said.

Even though, like the youngsters and their "blogs," I try to keep the patter topical - Craig! Haggard! Foley! Johnson! - F_B, ever fair, speaks the truth. Sadly, the report won't be diapered instead of written, in which case I could have mentioned Vitter.

What a ****ing sham.

That would also describe Sen. Craig's marriage, I'm thinking.
Or perhaps not.

It's definitely not part of the Kwai-jack either, though it would have been funny if the doctor said that when the bridge was being built instead of pussing out in the face of Alec Guiness.

If I've said it once, I'll say it again Sir David Lean didn't incorporate enough wacky, profanity-fueled characters or lines in his epics.

I don't think Lawrence Of Arabia would have been hurt if instead of "nothing is written", Peter O'Toole said "nothing is written, ****stick!"

On the other hand.
Sarah Miles.
Ryan's Daughter.

If the Washington press corps were still alive, this wouldn't be happening.

Now, where's John Edwards getting his hair cut these days . . .

Key difference? Because the U.S. wasn't going it alone in Germany, other countries were able to help ensure that the fighting was over in less time than it's been going on over in Iraq.
