A deep apology is in order to Peetz girls head coach Kristen Hamil and her team as she was completely misquoted in Monday’s report of Peetz and Merino. In fact, I never spoke to the coach after the game nor over the phone about the game. To quote her on false information is simply poor reporting on my part and I sincerely apologize to coach Hamil, the Lady Bulldogs, and the Peetz athletic department.

On a scale of 1-10, I'd give the correction a 1.

I have seen stuff like this happen before where someone quotes an assistant thinking it's the head coach for example. If something like that happened, it needs to be clearer.

If this guy made up quotes, his boss should be writing the correction and explaining it.

I agree Ace. But, he said he made it up. It couldn't be more clear. This wasn't mistaken.
And, look at the URL. Not evidence, but it says "fabricated_quot.html"
Just found that to be a little funny. Funny, not the word, but you get it...

It also says "to quote her on false information is simply poor reporting" which though admittedly true seems deliberately obtuse. Not to mention sounds like it was written by a second grader.

Well, you're right. Problem is, his definition of "reporter" and the rest of profession may not be exactly by line.

Out of curiosity, I used the search engine on the paper's site to see if I could find the actual article where the "poor reporting" happened. I believe this is it:

If the webpage is any indication, "poor reporting" isn't the only thing that needs fixing ... note the "comback" in the subhead and various other errors in the article itself.

Not to pile on, but there's plenty to edit in that story.

Also, this is the only quote from the coach mentioned:
“Seems like we are just going to keep playing until the district tournament and then see if we can make noise there,” Peetz girls head coach Kristen Hamil said. “It doesn’t seem like the girls want it right now.”

Any chance the reporter got that quote, printed it, then the coach contacted them and said, "Hey, I didn't want that in, it was off the record. My parents are mad at me," and the reporter said "I'll say you didn't say it because you've been really nice to me." Whew. Any chance?

No matter what, I'm for the firing. Just seems an odd quote to make up. Maybe the reporter is too stupid to realize both are lousy and which looks worse.

I don't think this is the case, just thought it's a possibility.

But, just from a very brief investigation, it looks like Anthony is a one-man shop. They probably can't afford to get rid of him until the slow season. :-\
