I loved Picket Fences, L.A. Law, Boston Public, Ally.... but this is much less funny to me.

Boy wonder lost his touch sometime around the middle of the second season of Boston Public.

He was always a melodramatic sort, so it was tough to take BP seriously, but wow, did that show turn ****ty in a hurry. Did he ever explain why he had the teacher survive the stabbing only to send him off to the psych ward two shows into the next year?

I liked this one. Had the Ally McBeal feel to it. I'll keep watching.

Of course, I could watch Teri Polo 24/7/365 with little problem.

Usually it takes until the third season for Kelley to start mailing it in. But I will say he has had a more consistent record of success than Bochco.

Hill Street alone gave Bochco a more consistent record of success. It was one of the three greatest shows in TV history.
What has Kelley done that wasn't crap three years into its run?
If a show doesn't start out ridiculous, like Picket Fences, it turns ridiculous as The Practice and LA Law did.

Sure, Boccho had Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue, and shares L.A. Law with Kelley, but dropped a lot of bombs in between (Cop Rock, anyone? Byrds of Paradise? Civil Wars? Beverly Hills Buntz?) ABC got one good show out of stealing Boccho from NBC. Meanwhile, Kelley has been putting out shows for 15 years that at least for a while were considered quality TV and were part of the cultural zeitgeist.

Jeri Ryan and Sharon Leal as school teachers, though, wasn't at least somewhat redemptive?

Bochco had Cop Rock, Kelley had Rocks Off.

Probably one of the main reasons I watched it as much as I did.

I didn't watch Ally McBeal, but damn, that show seemed to slip realllllllllllly fast.
