Fredo's tired of commander-in-chiefin', I guess.
There are several layers of loathsome to this, but the deepest and most odious is the fact that it's an indication that, just as he has done in the case of all the multifarious failures of his adult life, he's trying to find a way to leave the biggest, bloodiest bungle of his failed presidency to someone else. Hey, we have a 'war czar," foof. It's you. It's plain that you can't do this job, but can't yopu at least keep trying.
18 more months.
Jesus wept.

"There's the residue of the Cheney view -- 'We're going to win, al-Qaeda's there' -- that justifies anything we did," (Sheehan) said. "And then there's the pragmatist view -- how the hell do we get out of Dodge and survive? Unfortunately, the people with the former view are still in the positions of most influence."

I hate to be cynical and a pessimist, but the only thing people against the war can hope for is that things aren't completely and totally screwed up by the time Bush leaves -- as opposed to just completely screwed up. I don't have any hope that things will improve.

Maybe Fredo finally learned that someone was supposed to be in charge and just wasn't told it was supposed to be him.

You're doing a helluva job, Future War Czar!

Did someone asked for scapegoats?

If you're already unhappy with how the war is going, do not, I repeat, do not read the article in this week's Time Magazine about how the army is doing.

Damn it FH, now you really put me in a bad mood after reading that.

The Army's rush to carry out President George W. Bush's order to send thousands of additional troops more quickly to Iraq is forcing two of the five new brigades bound for the war to skip standard training at Fort Irwin, Calif. These soldiers aren't getting the benefit of participating in war games on the wide Mojave Desert, where gun-jamming sand and faux insurgents closely resemble conditions in Iraq. "Given the new policy of having troops among the Iraqis," says Lawrence Korb, a former Pentagon personnel chief, "they should be giving our young soldiers more training, not less."

And the White House's response:

"They can get desert training elsewhere," spokesman Tony Snow said Feb. 28, "like in Iraq."

W just wants those troops as prepared for desert warfare as he was for the presidency.

When was the last "successful" czar? the drug czar? intelligence czar? Nicholas II? Things never end well if you are a czar.
