Imperial Palace, on the Strip: Pros? Cons? Thumbs up or down?

It's going to be a place to sleep and change clothes. The casino won't see any of my money.

It's fine. IP is a gambler's casino on the strip.
Doesn't have all the high-end frills a lot of the strip hotels have. It really depends on what kind of experience you're looking for.

Casino has always seemed creepy to me. Never won there, nor did I feel like any of the dealers wanted me to win.

Can't speak to the quality of the hotel itself, but the location is outstanding between Flamingo/Harrah's and across the street from Mirage/Caesars. The classic car collection in the rear of the hotel is awesome, one of my favorite ways to kill a couple hours in Vegas without spending any money (they charge admission but free coupons are easy to find).

What is it that you want in a hotel there? If you're like most visitors there for a couple of days, you won't be spending much time in your room.

If it's a plush room you're after and a room that looks like it was just refurbished and remodeled, no, the IP isn't the place for you.

If you want something that's centrally located, it's a great place.

For me, the IP always is reasonably priced and I don't mind sacrificing a bit of quality for paying less than most the other prospects. It's never my first choice, but it'll do.

I've stayed at the Stratosphere. I figure the IP is about the same but closer to the Strip.

I had a craps run for the ages at the IP about 10 years ago.
But, come to think of it, I don[t think I've gambled there since.

I stayed at the IP last time I was there (this was 1999) and had no issue with it. The location is awesome and I really liked the car collection too.

Two years ago, I found my room to be dirty and disgusting.

But I slept like 3 hours a day. And the location is primo.

Never stayed there but like others have said you can't beat location. It is right by monorail stop which makes it very convenient .

At some of hotels on strip by time you walk to monorail its easier to just walk to where you were going .

Had no problems at the Imperial Palace.

Dealers were friendly enough.

The car museum is frickin' awesome.

Can't beat the location.

I haven't stayed there in almost 20 years, but it was showing its age even then. I did stop in to play some blackjack a couple years ago, and the table minimums were a lot more reasonable than some of the fancier places on the Strip.

If a lot of cigarette smoke bothers you, you might want to rethink. I think they have some pumped in from neighboring casinos just to give it more of that Rat Pack ambience.

Parking's an irritant.

Floor plan's demented.

And if you're stuck in a room overlooking Harrah's "Party Plaza", god help you when the bands and all the screaming idiots keep you up all night.

For strip, the rates are cheap, but if the buffet is a fair example of their food service . . . you'd be well-served to steer far, far clear.

IP is a dump, but an incredibly conveniently located dump. If all you need's a place to shower and you aren't looking to impress a woman, you're fine.

I've heard the complaints about rooms overlooking the Harrah's Party area...but if you're in your room from roughly 10 p.m.-2 a.m. when that area is most busy, you are fragrant with fail.

Unless you're with a hooker, and then who cares about what's going on outside.

If he's not looking to imprss a woman, why waste time with a shower?

I love the IP. The rooms aren't glitzy, but who the **** cares. If you want to be an artificial bigshot, stay at the IP and spend all your time across the street at the Mirage or Caesar's.

The location is incredible, the price is affordable. Some of the blackjack tables have "Dealertainers" who are celebrity impersonators who are over-the-top fun.

My IP stories are plentiful and awesome.

I'm still laughing.

It was a more tolerable option when the corner joint was the Barbary Coast, prior to its takeover by Satan.
