Anyone doing anything for it?

We never do because it's too crowded, especially on a Friday night.

Plus, kids.

This holiday gets confusing when you're a parent and have been married for pushing a decade.

My wife doesn't want anything. She's told me not to get her anything. I am 100 percent convinced she does not want anything.

But... At some point tomorrow, my sister-in-law or mother-in-law (both of whom I like a lot...) will call and ask what I gave her for Valentines' Day and I don't want my wife to be in a position to say, "We decided not to do anything this year..."

I got her flowers, pajamas and I'm making dinner.

For those of you not having a good Valentine's Day, it could be worse ... you could be arrested, tortured, beaten with clubs and beheaded by Roman soldiers on Feb. 14.

Then maybe this day would have YOUR name :)

Like clockwork, every year:

"What did you get your wife for Valentine's Day?"

"Nothing, she doesn't want anything."

"She wants something."

Nope. She doesn't. I don't even think she thinks about it. It would be just more "stuff" cluttering up our already cluttered existence.

I've never known what to do with the "I just met this girl and we made out for the first time two days before V-Day" situation.

Or gunned down by a rival gang in a parking garage.

Happy National Make Single People Feel Like **** Day
I plan to celebrate as I always do, head to the bar at 1:45 to meet some clinically depressed women.

I am happily married, but listen to me carefully:

You have nothing to feel "like ****" about. Today or any day, regarding this. Married life has its advantages. But so does single life. Neither is a reflection on your value as a person. At all.

Be sure to ask them if they are on or off their meds. Then take notes, because I am not sure if I would rather have them be on or off of them if I'm going to go after crazy.

The fiance works second shift. I work first shift. So we don't actually see each other today. Our exciting post-valentines day plans for tomorrow: see the Lego Movie.

Why would a single person feel like ****? You're off the hook. You don't have to do **** for anyone. Enjoy it.

So keep your head up.

It's a reminder of what I don't have. Granted, I'm reminded of that fact quite often, but on this particular day it gets turned up to 11. I want a relationship. I'm ready for that. But every woman around here seems to be married or addicted to meth or complete idiots or all three.
It just seems like this day is a long parade of couples showing off chocolates and flowers they've collected and talking about their highly romantic plans for the evening with an undertone of "Ha, ha, you don't have this." Maybe that's not intended, but that's the message I take away from it. That's why this is the worst day on the calendar and ultimately I just want it to go away.

Sent flowers to the work place.
Sent 'Walking Dead' Valentine card via phone.
Bought sweatpants (my sweatpants are not intended to be your oversized pajamas).
Have dinner tonight. See a movie.
