I know a thread has already been posted here, but I am going to NYC in about two weeks only for a couple of days and need two things: where is the best place to stay hotel wise and if you only had a couple of days, what would you absolutely check out while in the city?

Thanks for your help,

Money is not an issue? So, I guess you don't actually work in journalism.

How much is 'not an issue?' $700/night? $450?

If money is truly no object, I'd stay at the Mandarin Oriental.

Oh yeah, I should mention that I am looking for a place to stay within the Times Square/Manhattan Area.

The W in Times Square. Great bar. And definitely see a B-way show...a big one...like Wicked or Lion King. And spend the money to rent a car/driver for 3 hours to take you anyplace you want. It's about $75/hour. Well worth it. Have fun!

I heard about the W and a friend recommended it to me. I am going to look into it.

Walk.

Like all great cities, NY is best seen by foot.

Wherever you stay, the 2 best things you can do for free in NYC are take a Staten Island Ferry ride and spend a couple hours walking around Central Park.

fixed.

There's a booth in Times Square that sells half-price tickets for Broadway shows.

It's called TKTS. They discount available tickets for shows on the same day -- buy at noon, say, and show at 8 p.m. So you can't get tickets to the sold-out blockbuster, but you can get tickets to a surprisingly good range of shows, especially if you can go any time other than Friday or Saturday night.

If you're into candy and chocolate, Dylan's Candy Bar (3rd Ave and 60th St) might be one of the coolest places you can visit.

Have fun!

My advice...don't stay near Times Square. There's nothing to really do/see in Times Square unless you want to be amongst millions of other tourists, and it's loud at night unless you're up really high.

I echoe the Affinia. There's a great one in midtown, and it's often reasonably priced. Want walk to great shopping, subway and end up anywhere you want to go.

W or the Westin are probably good choices if you must stay in Times Square, which is something I'd want to avoid. I'd much prefer something in a little quieter areas, like the Intercontinental over on 48th and Lexington.

It's a great time of year to come to town. Go to Central Park, walk through the Village or take in a few galleries in Soho. At night, find a club (I'm too old to know which are hot these days) or check the listings and go listen to some live music.

Second that motion.

HC & took the ferry the time we were down before the sj. com amd it's marvellous.

Central Park is friggin' magical.

True. Times Square is the world's largest flea market, with knockoff purses and watches and other knick-knacks filling the sidewalks.

The Affinia 50 is the one in Midtown. We paid less than $200 per night there a couple of months ago.

The W Times Square is nice, but I actually prefer the one down by Union Square. Just a matter of preference. I like the bar there better, too. More relaxed, but still some of the most ridiculously beautiful women (and men) you can imagine. Something about the atmosphere makes them almost even feel approachable.

I suggest going to the following location at 10 AM on Saturday, September 1:

The Blue Room,
1140 Second Ave Corner of 60th St
