In reference to the title of this thread ... the tournament is called the Players Championship, and the Players on second reference. Hasn't been called the TPC since 1987. Tour changed the name after that tournament to avoid confusion with the Tournament Players Clubs brand.

Try to keep up. This is a sports writers' site and I thought accuracy was important. After all, no one is calling the Masters by its original title, the Augusta National Invitation.

Yanks, rumors have been swirling for a few weeks that Tiger was interested in working with the guy from Orange County. They obviously didn't come from nowhere. When asked about Haney, TW gave one of those "I'm still working with him now" answers. Tiger Woods swing coach doesn't quit on him; Tiger decides to make a change. Clearly Haney didn't like Tiger sniffing around for other options so he mercy killed the relationship. He was being hung out to dry by the fact that everyone was talking about Tiger leaving and Tiger's half-hearted denials that he wasn't.

I haven't been to Independence in years. They built a housing development on the course I used to play. Still hack me off.

However, Moddy, the Tour doesn't use the acronym of TPC in reference to the golf tournament, because it's already used for the network of about 30 courses it owns or has branding deals with. What's so hard to understand here?

The tour may not use TPC but almost every fan rolling around the course calls this event TPC.

What fans call it doesn't make it right. It's up to us to be accurate and educate the fans. 99 percent of the fans out there probably couldn't spell Jose-Maria Olazabal's name right, but does that mean we go with their butchered pronunciations or spellings, or do we do it right?
