This is why we don't play sports inside

KILLENARD, Ireland -- Marc Warren was back playing in the Seve Trophy tournament on Friday, the morning after he injured himself by accidentally smashing a chandelier with a golf club in his hotel room.

The Scotsman said he tried a practice swing with a 5-iron in his room Thursday night and hit a glass chandelier which smashed into pieces over him.

Warren was taken to a hospital where he received stitches for a deep cut in his abdomen. He also had minor cuts on his arms and head.

"There was plenty of blood and a towel I held to my stomach was covered when I arrived at the hospital," Warren said. "But the only thing that hurt was the scratch on my head. I feel fine about playing today."

Warren teamed with Colin Montgomerie and lost 5-and-3 to Frenchmen Raphael Jacquelin and Gregory Havret.

Because you paired with Montie and will obviously lose. :D

and how do you "accidentally" hit a chandelier? If you're a golfer don't you test your backswing to see if you're going to hit anything?

Anyone do anything similar to this? I can't remember any specifics, but assume while playing sports inside my house as a kid I must have broken a few things.

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.

I thought this was about papers that don't have a sports front, and for the life of me I couldn't figure out the connection. Stupid industry warping my language comprehension.

How in this scenario do you cut your abdomen, of all things?

yeah, I was wondering the same thing. When I saw that my first thought was this might be a Prefontaine-type situation, but I don't know how practicing a golf swing would help foreplay or the hibbity dibbity.

I've scraped a couple of ceilings before. You just think you're not going to hit anything and then "wham......oh oh. Um babe....I uh...." Never hit a chandelier though.

I whacked my sister solidly on the knee with a baseball bat while watching a ball game on TV. Fortunately I wasn't taking a regular cut or I would have seriously hurt her.

Broke my share of lightbulbs trying to see if I could throw the football across the living room.

Assuming he hit the chandelier on the backswing, picture the furthest reverse position of the backswing. The side and part of the abdomen is already exposed. Maybe his first reaction after hearing/feeling himself hit it was to turn towards the noise and look up. By then it would be too late to shield himself from any falling glass and his abdomen would be even more exposed.

I’m only able to picture this because I can be a klutz sometimes and could see it going down like that for me.
