The Washington Post just freaked me out

Easy to do, I know.

I went to the Post site to read Dan Steinberg's Bog. As I've noted before, I love Steinberg and the Bog is among the very best - maybe THE best - online products in the business.

When I got done, it said I could be the first of my friends to "like" this. Off to the side was a long list of my friends and what they're doing.

How does the Washington Post have access to my friends? Did I give them access somehow? Are they in my walls, in my computer? Why do I hear a Rockwell song now? WHAT WHAT WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE??

Before you ask, yes, I put down the pipe. More than 30 years ago.

That's what it sounds like to me. I'm not on it either. I opted out.

You can go into Facebook's privacy settings and disallow this access. Under the "Instant Personalization Pilot Program" setting, go in and uncheck the box.

This feature is way too creepy for me. It was particularly annoying that FB made this an opt-out program.

Someone a couple of days ago saw an ad on DenverPost.com mentioning who was a fan of theirs. I was the second one listed. Yah, creepy.

I opted-out too. But I was surprised that I could still what my facebook friends liked and whatnot.
