Ended up heave-hoing my first softball player as an umpire tonight (used to work baseball back in the day, so I had my delivery down pat).

Good men's league game. Several close calls all over the place, including two safe calls by me at home. Visiting team's 2B mocked the other team once, and we called the two coaches together to tell them to pipe down -- at us and each other.

Next half-inning, 2B misses a tag on a baserunner, and spikes the ball hard. That was it for me. See ya.

I'm not sure what's more astonishing - that you're proud of being a hard-ass umpire in rec league softball, or that you actually felt the need to start a thread about it.

That's it?
If you had ever worked a Miller High Life-Pepperidge Farm game in the Ann Arbor Capitol League, we'd have bought you tampoons and Mydol between games of the doubleheader.

Felt like sharing, DoubleJ. Feel free to step the **** off. :) People share all kinds of inane crap here.

And Slapster, I had the thumb cocked and reeady about three times earlier in the game but let 'em play.

Stepping the **** off......but I'll kick some dirt on your shoes before I do. ;D

Ended up actually posting my first inane story as an poster on SportsJournalists.com tonight (used to lurk on sportspages back in the day, so I had my style down pat).

Good Anything Goes board. Several solid threads all over the place, including two with solid posts by me. A few days ago, Boom_70 and DD mocked each other over on Journalism Topics Only, and the moderators stepped in to tell them to pipe down.

A few days later, I get home from a softball game during which I particularly relished an ejection. That was it for me. See ya.

You ran him for spiking the ball?

He didn't say anything to you?

Careful, CI, or I'll run your ass.

Call him a cocksucker.

Funny you mention that..,. am watching Mr. Baseball now and there was an on-field argument. Remembered that the worst insult you can say in Japanese baseball is to call them a Chinese cocksucker....

Can you run me for what I'm thinking?

No? Good. Then I think you're a cocksucker.

Damn, I don't know which are more inane ...RB's "I'm a hard ass ump" threads or chef's "I'm a hardass ump" threads.

He didn't say anything directly to me, Chef. My partner said he didn't see him do it (was following the runner until I called time), but said he'd have done the same thing. Both teams had been super-chirpy all game, and we told them they were on a short leash. Without the prior warning, we would have just said something to him. But we were close to losing both teams, so it had to be done.

Good for you. That behavior has no place, at least not when I'm paying to play.

I actually agree with this. I play in an adult baseball league, and the only thing I hate about it is the loud-mouthed, bush-league assholes. Had an ump warn me for my foot being just outside the foul line when I was holding a runner on at first base, because somebody in the other dugout made a fuss about it. I've been playing the position for 20 damn years and nobody's ever said a word. **** that ****.

Let the overweight, past-their-prime, middle-age-crisis-be-having, never-let-go-of-their-childhood, peaked-in-high school losers play.

Hey, if we don't play, you don't have a job, Blue!

I thought this thread was going to be about a certain geographical area in Michigan.
