Let's keep the discussion to this cover and our thoughts on it and not let this thread get off the rails like the other thread did (and despite a few posters complaining about it being locked, it was off the rails and was the right call and that's the end of that!!)

Anyway, yea or nay? I was half tempted to chuckle and go oh, the Post, but we're talking about children being abused here. I like most of their stuff. I think this crossed the line.

Moddy, I agree with you. My initial reaction was a slight chuckle and "Yeah, you could see that one coming." But then realizing the victims and the overall picture, yes, too far.

Over the line. Children were involved. I want this guy to rot in hell just as much as anybody, but rooting for rape just isn't right.

I'm usually all for headlines that take chances and push the envelope, but this one should have been vetoed.

Fails on several levels — taste, accuracy (he's going to prison, not jail) and, perhaps worst of all, goes for the too-easy joke.

Someone in charge should have killed the wood, if you'll excuse the industry jargon.

Probably sold more newspapers for the NYP that day.

What I didn't like is that I don't think the headline is factually accurate.

What percent of prison populations is individuals with footlongs? I think Jared is more likely to get six inches, repeatedly.

I'm OK with the cover. 1) It's the Post. That is actually relatively tame compared to some covers they have done. 2) It's not making light of the underage sex or the child porn he got nabbed for. It's about him and going to jail, not about what he did to land in jail. 3) The joke itself is something every one of us thought of. So it can't be THAT over the line. The reason it is a chuckle and go on, actually, is that it was a pretty obvious one.

Rape is funny.

Over the line, even for the Post. It also doesn't read properly with FOOT and LONG on different lines.

On top of that, it was lazy. That joke was all over social media since the story began to percolate.

It wasn't particularly clever or original. That joke was all over Twitter many hours before the paper hit the stands.
And I don't care if it's the Post being the Post. There are times in society when not f'n everything is funny.
It's not like the Post is the picture of great health and viability as a business.

Not quite understanding where all the sudden outrage is coming from.

Getting boned in prison has been a pretty standard joke for eons. Movies, TV, comedians...not like this is some new phenomenon.

And if you're wanting me to feel bad or compassionate for the NYP taking it out on him, the child molester, well , sorry. Whatever happens with him, that's all his doing.

I usually like NYP headlines because of the thought that can go into them. You normally find a play on words, or a double-meaning type of thing. When I first saw this, I got the obvious message but couldn't come up with the play on words or double-meaning. I think it was a bit crass. I think they could have done better with a little more thought.

Lazy was what I thought too.

Now a joke about the prison food being better than Subway ... that woulda been great.

Maybe the NYP should have made some twisted reference to Deliverance.

"Jared, you're gonna look just like a hog."
