Detroit Free Press "covers" CEO's speech (but he's out sick)
Detroit Free Press
A front-page story in Wednesday's Free Press said "[Bob] Nardelli, Chrysler's new chief executive office and chairman, addressed more than 300 senior executives at an all-day meeting Tuesday at Hyatt Regency Dearborn." Actually, Nardelli was sick on Tuesday and didn't deliver the speech -- until Wednesday. Corrections in the print edition and online story don't explain to readers how the mistake was made.

Guess what? Mateen Cleaves and Jason Richardson were there too.

Nardelli?

Isn't that the guy who fleeced Home Depot?

What a scumbag. I will never buy Chrysler.

What was Nardelli wearing when he gave the speech?

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.
What's sad about this is, since it was a front-page story, this wasn't a one-person screw-up, but a systemic error due to the way the paper does business. Unless Gannett (fixed) wants to see more of this type of journalistic excellence they may want to consider what they could have done to help make a mistake like this not happen.

Sorry slap, I thought Singleton got hold of the Freep.

Yes he is, a quarter-billion golden handshake to go away after he screwed up the company from stem to stern.

Corporate America blows goats.

It's the copy editor's fault. [/Albom]

That point made me almost as mad as Albom fabricating the whole scene in the first place.

Nardelli is a first-class turdball.

The Dwarf's enabler is long-gone . . . and this STILL happens?

Need to hire some help, if this crap is going on in broad daylight.

I would blame everyone BUT the copy editor here. The copy editor has no idea that so and so did or didn't speak at the function.

Writer's fault. Period.

I don't know - sure its the writer's fault, but you'd think editors would be involved enough in what is going on in their towns and what is going on the front page that they would be sure. My question is - if it was important enough to be on the front page, why wasn't it important enough to send a reporter to cover the speech?

If that's getting blown, where can I get some species-reassignment surgery?
