" A 24-year-old Texas man has been charged in the shooting death of a small-town police chief, a sheriff's spokeswoman said Sunday.

Joshua Manuel Lopez faces a charge of capital murder of a police officer in the killing of Elmendorf Police Chief Michael Pimentel, said Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Rosanne Hughes.

Pimentel was shot in the shoulder and abdomen while making a stop Saturday to serve an active misdemeanor warrant for graffiti. He was flown to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead."

That's not the foundation of our society and not even the equation. You don't get to gun down Michael Brown because someone else killed the chief 2000 miles away.

No, but the bad neighborhoods increase the risk that a cop could get killed. While they are trained, there's still a human element.

It's awful. A cop being killed is a tragedy.

But the danger of the job is part of the equation. Outrage isn't going to be equal for an armed officer being killed in a dangerous job, as it will be for an unarmed teenager who was shot six times in the middle of the street. Being an unarmed teenager isn't supposed to be a dangerous occupation.

What is there to protest? The issue in Freguson is that the police shot someone and the officer has not been charged. While I agree the circumstances are different but there is at least something to debate.

In this case the alleged gunman has been charged and is looking at the death penalty.
