Really depends.
If you are hiking and need something lightweight and easily carried, you'll want a backpack tent. If you are driving to a camp sight and are just going to set up, you can go with more of a camping tent.
REI has done us really well with both types of tents (the tents are branded by REI). We have one 2-person tent from them that has gotten a ton of use and is at least 15 years old and it's been really durable and trustworthy. It doesn't look like much, but it even survived one pretty good wind and rain storm once, where we stayed dry as bone.
We call it our "ridiculous little tent" because we're always surrounded by people who lug a whole house with them to go camping, and we always just show up with that tiny tent, some wood, food and our backpacks.
