For the first time in a long time, I'm watching Sports Center regularly again, almost entirely because I am a big fan of Scott Van Pelt.

I think his new version of SC is entertaining, fun and informative. And they talk about gambling!

Was curious what others thought.

I'm not interested in his picks anymore than the guy two cubicles over from me who's in a free-picks contest with his friends. Now if he has betting slips, that's different. Then you're into it.

Do the folks who set the spreads objectively provide a spread that essentially handicaps the games? Or are the lines set with the intention of providing a misleading spread to induce most people to bet a particular way in most games?

Maybe there should be a gambling show where experts with no skin in the game set lines or at least critique the established lines

Russillo was fine as a sidekick, but, yeah, that show has no direction.

There is good news/bad news for Scott Van Pelt.

The bad news is this show is awful.

The good news is there is no way he can possibly have the most awful show on ESPN.

Not with "Morning Pizza" or whatever the hell that dreadful show with Screamin' A and Skip yelling at each other is called these days, not with "sportsnation" or whatever Colin Cowherd's nonsensical show is called, not with "Around the Horn" and especially not with the worst ever of all these ESPN shows "His and Hers" on the same air waves.

His and Hers, by the way, is the worst of the bunch by a lot -- there is nothing remotely interesting, funny, insightful about either host on that nonsense.

In short - Scott Van Pelt's Sportscenter is just another example of a self-importance network creating another self-important psuedo-celebrity and hoping we all think he /she is as great as they seem to.

And along those lines - is there anyone out there that still thinks Chris Berman is relevant and who the hell thinks it is a good idea to have him calling games.

This is the correct option. If you think books are trying to hit the number, you don't understand sports gambling.

The weird thing is Russillo was really good even when SVP left to go do the golf tournaments. Something about having to carry the show on a day-in, day-out basis has exposed him as a guy who can't carry a show.

Not gonna argue that. Spare me the "SVP," for starters.

And yes, I'd love to see his Bovada slips. Then I'll stand corrected. But it's a pet peeve of mine for all these talking heads to have "picks" without anything behind it. If it's so "edgy" now for someone to talk about his bets on SportsCenter, then just go full Mayweather and Tweet your betting slips.

I think you're taking his picks a tad more seriously than anyone else.

Most of us understand the difference between someone like Pete Prisco giving his NFL picks each week for EVERY game and Van Pelt giving his five best picks each week.
