Lots of different directions you can go with it.

Liked ESPN's "Surge Protectors"

Our deadline is 10:30, so we scrambled to put the score on the front page. (But in all caps so our readers know it's important.)

Upon seeing that, I immediately thought of the people killed by the Katrina storm surge and that kinda turned me off.

Pre-power outage, I would have used "Pistol whipped" but the 49ers' comeback pretty much wiped that out.

That's a weird connection, even on a regional level. "Surge Protectors" was easily the best I saw anywhere tonight. SI.com went with "The Power and the Glory," which is mildly clever. Yahoo Sports has "Retirement party," which I think mistakenly makes it all about Ray Lewis, who had a bad game. Sporting News, which has fallen way out of contention with the big boys, has "Jolt from Joe," which is another example of Sporting News falling way out of contention with the big boys.

That's horrendous, even for a teaser. But Drip tells me the person who wrote that is a great guy and close personal friend.

Surge Protectors is pretty clever. I guess I can see how you make the connection with Katrina, but honestly I would never have made that connection myself.

No 'Purple Reigns' this time?
That's encouraging. Figured I'd see about 50 of them.

The tabloid-style headline that kept popping into my head -- although I still am not entirely sure how/where to best use it -- was ...

DARK RAVEN MAD
