To say Williams could take the 150Th ranked player in the world and make him jump into the top ten is ludicrous. And, no I don't think anyone can just do it, but if your scenario were true, there would be bidding wars for his services.

Look, kid. Tiger would hit a 6-iron here, OK. So here you go.

This is true. Steve's a damn good caddie. He's not a miracle worker. He's not going to take Thongchai Jaidee -- to pick a journeyman out of the blue -- and make him Tiger or Phil.

And Yankee Fan, the golfing community knows who the star caddies are and it applies both ways. Yes, Jim "Bones" Mackay is a famous caddie and not just good, but great at what he does for Phil Mickelson. Same with Stevie and Tiger, Fluff Cowan and Jim Furyk, Terry McNamara and Annika Sorenstam and the late Bruce Edwards with Tom Watson, just to name a few.

These folks not only have the pedigree and ability, but the chops and work ethic to make their players more comfortable -- and therefore better. Mickelson is on record as saying that Bones has a record of every shot he's hit in every tournament. You want to tell me that doesn't add to Phil's comfort level when he's standing over a shot?

As for Stevie, he's the top-paid "sportsman" in New Zealand. I'll leave that for the rest of you to mull over.

"If someone thinks anybody can do it, just stop by your local club one day and pick up the sack for some over-privileged doctor."

I think that I might take umbrage.

You should. I'd take umbrage at someone trying to pick up my sack and carry it for 4 1/2 hours.

4 1/2 hours is much too long for 1 holes. If you get an early tee time with nobody in fornt of you and can keep it in play, 2 1/2 is plenty. And one day, if I'm fortunate to play in Scotland, perhaps I'll have my first caddy who will teach me humility and appreciation for the game.

Scribe...

I didn't say anything about turning him into Tiger or Phil...I said a top 10 player. That's well within the realm of possibility for a Jaidee type player.

Another good example is the late Steve Duplantis. That guy was on the sack for several first-time victories. Steve just had a knack for what he was doing. Unfortunately he had a knack for burning the candle at both ends also and paid the ultimate price.

But he was a great caddie.

My guess is no ing way, if more than 24 hours after the fact one of the legit golf outlets doesn't have it.

With all that Tiger's been through, are you really firing one of the most loyal guys in your inner circle for a bad club or two? The man has proved himself to be dumb but, between the ropes, he's not that stupid.

"Don't read much into the apparent disagreement between Tiger Woods and Steve Williams on the 10th hole Sunday. While there was some question as to whether Woods should hit his approach right at the flag, he didn't blame Williams for the ensuing bogey. Woods knows the problem was his ball-striking, not how Williams thought he should play that hole." -Brian Wacker, pgatour.com

I know what I heard and it's not the same thing this guy heard.

I couldn't care less that Wacker wrote. You made a statement. So where you were that you "heard" something different.

So Tiger saying "we made three mental mistakes and all it cost us was the Open," means you KNOW Wacker is wrong?
I'd say not you or anyone else has any idea what three mental mistakes Tiger was talking about or whether he was blaming Williams or not.

Well thanks, God bless you too.

Don't worry. I'm going to hire Williams and become one of the top 10 golfers in the world.

I doubt you could do that. You'd be breaking your own rule about not becoming the story. But I'll be looking for you out there. The great story teller right?
