Stanton and 61

Some of this PED discussion is entertaining, but I've always felt like this is going down the pissing match rabbit hole.

Anything that diminishes the accomplishments of Barry Bonds is a-ok in my book. If he gets 62, he has the record

Not a member, even if his name is spelled differently.

People really need to stop. Bonds holds the record. It happened. Get past it.

And his head is as big as a beach ball.

You want to go back and wipe out the statistics of every player who used PEDs? Great. Good luck with all those adjustments. Those balls Bonds hit went over the fence. Baseball failed to catch him before that happened, just as it failed to catch many others. End of story.

OJ did it too.

Maris, Mantle, Mays, Aaron, Banks, etc. all played in an era (post WWII to the early '70s) where amphetamines were handed out like candy by the club trainers.
True, and later than that even, into the 1980s. But greenies also can make you jittery, not a good quality when you’re trying to hit a round ball with a round bat.

And allow you to be on the field when you otherwise wouldn't be able to. There's a reason players took them like candy.

Amphetamines and steroids are both drugs. ... but they didn't have the same effect on baseball.

Amphetamines enabled performance. Players could show up hung over, have a cup of coffee with an additive or pop a greenie, and it helped them get through the next couple of hours. Speed didn't make them hit the ball farther or throw it harder than they naturally were able to.

Steroids enhanced performance. It's why home run records started getting obliterated and middle relievers were suddenly all throwing 94 mph instead of 86 mph.

Both might have left their mark on baseball, but as a matter of degree, one probably changed the game way more than the other did.

Hahaha that's hilarious. "Enabled" is OK?

Those guys could have gotten out there without greenies. They might have sucked, but they would have been out there. And you're trying to say all the home runs Willie Mays hit after popping pills are in a different category because the pills only "enabled" him to play and didn't "enhance" how he played?

Jesus, that's a riot.

So where is the equation that shows who benefits (and who's at a disadvantage) when batter on steroids faces pitcher on steroids?

The patented SJ.com post, where someone 1) doesn't respond to what you actually post. 2) Does the "what you are trying to say," post instead. And then does the dismissive, 3) "That is ridiculous."

I pointed out how speed and steroids differ. I said that as a matter of degree, the one that enhanced performance probably impacted the game way more than the one that enabled performance.

Dude, you bonded the words to highlight the difference between them.

It's an insanely stupid thought.

Steroids definitely enabled players as well. It aided in recovery, allowing players to get back on the field, and back into the wight room.
