The Journal, an award-winning daily nestled in the foothills of Upstate South Carolina, is seeking a sports writer who is passionate about, well, sports and writing.
This opening would be ideal for a recent college graduate or any aspiring journalist looking to get their foot in the door of this business.
The primary focus of our sports department is the four local high schools within our coverage area, but being only eight miles from Clemson Memorial Stadium, we also devote plenty of ink to covering one of the nation’s major college athletic programs. This is an opportunity to cover a football team that played for a national championship this year.
As a five-day daily that publishes Tuesday through Saturday, most — though not all — weekends are your own. That’s a perk you’re not likely to find in many gigs similar to this one. This is a full-time position with most of the benefits (health insurance, paid vacation, etc.) one would expect. It is also an entry-level position, so the pay grade will reflect that, at least initially.
