Do you reckon Basso and Owosso rhyme?

No. Oh-Wah-So.

Owosso, incidentally, is almost precisely halfway between the homefields of the Great Lakes Loons and the Lansing Lugnuts, so be ready for Midwest League rioting in the streets. :o :o

Owosso really covers the Lugs?

I've only read the paper a few teams, but that is enough to tell me its the type of place that doesn't cover pro or college sports.

I seriously doubt it; the Lansing State Journal barely covers the Lugnuts.

You mean three paragraph recaps of a team two blocks away doesn't count? :)

A quick glance at their web site reveals nine sports stories, all high school, and only three bylined articles.

I'd hazard a guess there is very little college or pro coverage. Maybe Saginaw Valley State or maybe Buick Classic coverage in Grand Blanc, but that's it.

I don't think they cover Saginaw Valley or the Buick Open. Mostly prep stuff.

Yea, those two are probably the only two pro or college things you might have a chance at covering.

But those chances would be VERY slim.

And there

There aren't really any other colleges out that way. Northwood?

This is probably 100 percent preps... Also worth noting there has been a news reporter position listed on JJOBS three times in the last nine months. So either this paper is a great sprinboard to bigger and better things, or it isnt such a great place to be.

Northwood is in Midland. Mott Community College in Flint has a pretty good basketball team but I don't think they cover that. And I don't think they cover Lansing CC either. I'm guessing mostly preps. The handful of times I've seen the paper I wasn't real impressed.

The sports opening, it has been reported on another thread, is the result of a guy moving to a bigger and better paper in Michigan.

I used to see the paper once in a while. Unless their coverage plan has changed dramatically just recently, this is 98.5% local preps and youth sports. A couple times a year they might let you sneak down to a Michigan or Michigan State game, POSSIBLY to the Buick Open, but the vast majority of the time, it's preps, youth and rec sports.
