The successful candidate will cover every level of sports and will likely be the paper's lead golf writer. The Press-Register is a 99,000-circulation Newhouse newspaper located on Alabama's Gulf Coast.

I worked in Mobile. While Kennedy is a good guy and the sports staff is top-notch, the management above him is awful. The executive editor is a complete moron. A lot of good reporters have come and gone from Mobile, but don't plan on staying too long unless you have a high tolerance for managerial b.s.

You are right, 2underpar. Kennedy does a good job of sheltering his people, but I wouldn't take a million bucks a year to put up the crap he has to take off this bonehead at the top. When some bigger publication snatches up Kennedy, everybody on his staff should walk out behind him.

That said, it wouldn't be a bad place to work. Many places have people at the upper end of the spectrum they couldn't give a rat's you know what for.
