The Clinton Journal has an immediate opening for a sports reporter who can also cover some basic news items for our twice weekly publication that serves the quiet, rural Central Illinois community in Clinton.

Main duties will include covering all local sports, as well as being able to write occasional news stories and attend some meetings. Photography and design layout experience helpful.

Position is ideal for recent college grad wanting to break into sports reporting industry.

Please e-mail resume to Gordon Woods at [email protected].

Photography and design experience helpful? Sounds like you're doing everything.

Yeah. Go figure. A paper asking employees to multitask. And design? Geez, buncha overbearing bastards...

In all fairness, almost every small paper says photo/design experience is a plus. Some shops that means you will do a bit of each, some it means you will do a ton of both. Just depends.

Perhaps the best evidence you will be doing everything is the three-person "Contact Us" at a 2K circ, twice weekly paper in a town of under 8,000, 40 miles west of Champaign.

Assuming it hasn't changed since the last time I interviewed there, this is a one-man desk where you will be producing everything that goes into the sports section.

Seeing as how it's twice-weekly printing, that shouldn't be that big of a problem.

This was a five-day (Monday through Friday) daily up until a few years ago.
