SPORTS EDITOR (signing bonus)



The Daily Herald, a 7,500 circulation daily nedwspaper in Roanoke Rapids, NC is looking for a creative sports journalist to take the lead in our sports coverage.



Our ideal candidate is a team player who has the ability to build relationships with coaches, athletic directors and players in the communities we serve.



The position’s primary responsibility is to cover sports activities in the two counties we serve. The job includes writing stories, related photography work, paginating sports pages, and loading sports stories and pictures on our website (RRDailyHerald.com). Some pagination and proofing of other pages in the paper is also required.



The successful applicant must be a strong writer and photographer and be familiar with a broad range of prep and youth sports. You must be able to write game stories as well as features, be organized, be a stickler for accuracy and well versed in the use of social media.



Qualifications include a college degree and sports writing experience. This position often requires work on evenings and weekends.



Roanoke Rapids a great place to live and is an ideal compromise between a big city and completely rural settings. Located on Interstate 95, we are approximately 90 miles from the Outer Banks and approximately 90 minutes from both Raleigh, NC, and Richmond, VA.

A diminshed sense of smell would be a good attribute for those interested in this position.

Agree with this statement, but the smell was on I-95 so I don't know if it permeates throughout the town or not.

Not the same place. The Roanoke colony was near Manteo on the Outer Banks. Roanoke Rapids is much further inland and sits very close to the Virginia border.
