The Capital Journal has an immediate opening for a sports editor to continue the coordination of our award-winning sports section. The editor oversees the sports section operations while producing engaging, active and interesting pages. The sports editor will paginate and design pages, work with coaches and athletes to generate daily stories, write a weekly sports column, and create special sports-related sections. The candidate must understand team work, community involvement, organization and deadlines. Design and photography skills are a must. The ideal candidate will have a sports or news background and knowledge of AP style and current events. Supervisory skills are preferred, but the candidate must have the ability to coach and collaborate and possess strong communication skills. This is a full-time position located in Pierre, South Dakota. The Capital Journal, a week day morning daily, is part of Arizona-based Wick Communications. The group offers health and dental coverage and 401k. This is an ideal position for a No. 2 person who is ready to run their own sports department. Qualified candidates should send resume, cover letter, writing samples and salary requirements to managing editor Rebecca Cruse at [email protected]. Include at least three references with resume.

Translation: This is an ideal position for someone who doesn't mind daily meals of macaroni and cheese and hot dogs.

i don't think there are that many state capitals that are as cheap to live in as this place. Just learn where the time zone changes.

This is an ideal position for anyone willing to live in Pierre, S.D.

There are worse places than Pierre; you have to look hard to find them, though. But there's great walleye fishing, the capitol building is pretty and the Pierre High Governors are generally pretty competitive.

Best of luck to whomever they hire. You've got to want to be there to live there, so I'm sure he/she knows exactly what they are getting into.

Anyone who does apply should make sure to learn how to pronounce the name of the town.

Are you saying it is like Refugio, TX?

Not as many syllables in Pierre. Almost as bad in Texas as Refugio are Knippa (three syllables AND home of the Purple Rockcrushers) and Palacios. I won't even try Anahuac.

More like the people who live there should either learn how to pronounce Pierre or learn how to spell "Peer."
