The Polk County Itemizer-Observer newspaper in Dallas, Ore., part of Eagle Newspapers Inc., has an immediate opening for a full-time sports editor.
This is a key position in our newsroom. It involves covering four high schools, a growing NCAA Division II university, and an assortment of community sports ranging from Little League baseball and softball to competitive fun runs and peewee rodeo.
The qualified candidate must have a sports journalism background and be an energetic, self-motivated team player with solid writing, reporting and time management skills. Knowledge of AP style required. Photography skills and the ability to paginate lively and visually appealing pages using Quark Xpress is also required. Professional newspaper experience preferred, but we’ll consider a recent college graduate with the right credentials. Competitive salary and benefit package that includes vacation, health coverage, life insurance and 401(k) plan.
