Good for him, but 600 in this era doesn't mean as much as it did pre-90s.

Interesting that he received a nice ovation (of course, it was in Texas). Not exactly the greeting Bonds gets ...

It was appropriate that he did against the team he never hit a bomb off of...the ****ing Cubs. Maybe the creatine (sp?) seemed to kick in at the right time.

A cinch for the Hall of Fame. Not first ballot, but he will get in.

I just hope his English improves between now and when he has to give his induction speech.
I thought you were referring to Chico Escuela.

Nevermind. ;)

That's because a) he's a likable guy and b) he hasn't been hung out to dry by Major League Baseball in the steroid talks.

No team would release a player with 53 RBIs before the break. He may be a ****, but he's producing.

This question was posed to me tonight:

If McGuire isn't geting in, will Sosa make it... 600 HRs or not?

McGwire probably makes it in ... eventually. Same with Sosa.

I agree with Sosa being a better all-around player and have better all-around offenisive numbers. But is ther enough of a steroid backlash to keep both out?
Is Sammy's sudden lack of the ability to speak English in front of Congress any better or worse than McGwie's not talking about the past?

To answer the first question, probably at this moment. In five years, (presumably) long after the Mitchell investigation has come and gone and the dust clears about steroids, maybe the situation will be better for them.

To answer the second question, McGwire and Sosa are one and the same there.

They are, indeed, one and the same in relation to the Congressional hearings, but McGwire has been villified and Sammy has been given a pass.

And have you noticed how much smaller Sammy is now than when he last wore a Cubbies uniform?
