Some sports scribe loves "My Boys"

Exactly, who among doesn't enjoy a good schlep. Or steak and schlep day or casual, no-strings attached schlep, which, by the way, is a lie. They always say no-strings, but you got strings, you always get strings.
Anyway, I love me some schlep and it is good to see that Jenni likes a good schlep as well.

Exactly. I watched two eps a couple of weeks ago and didn't see her set foot in a ballpark or clubhouse once. Maybe she has in other eps, but not the ones I saw. She seemed to have an awful lot of free time for a beat writer, female or male.

I guess the first clue was having to search the archives to determine whether or not she had ever written about her job and her gender. Perhaps the second was her pick for favorite movie ever.

My boss brought up my writing something about that show vis-a-vis me, an offer I laughingly declined as way, way, WAY too lame.

I guess we need to do a Nexis search to find out how many women sportswriters actually got roped into doing it.

Seriously, how long has she been at The Oklahoman? It feels like I've been seeing her name in print my whole life.

My God. I saw the last 20 minutes or so of last night's episode, and it's the first one I've seen where they've actually tried to work some of the business into the show. (I didn't see the first one). Cripes. She has a friend set up an interview with a Cubs player for her. If she's the Cubs beat writer, shouldn't she get that interview herself? And if she's the Cubs beat writer, shouldn't she not get all that excited about being on the front page of the sports section (since, as a Cubs beat writer, you'd probably be there four or five times a week)? It was embarrassing to watch.

She's hot and all, but the show itself is so bad at times that it's funny.

I'm hooked. :-[ It's a blatant ripoff of Sex and the City (but with male friends).. and it fills that Sex/City void for me.

I find the lead actress engaging. The 'Troutie' character is hilarious -- he's what turned the show from 'okay' to 'I'll keep watching.'

As for the-- "THAT'S NOT WHAT SPORTSWRITING IS LIKE"-- complaints...

Now you see the problem I had with Sports Night. A show you all thought was frickin' brilliant.

It's distracting, isn't it?

I love you. Most of the board loves you, but comparing "My Boys" to "Sports Night" is like comparing Joey Harrington to Joe Montana.

"Sports Night" was brilliant because of the writing and the way the actors played off one another. On "My Boys" the acting is rather stale and forced.

I respect your right to like the show, but don't compare it to a classic.

My only point for comparing the two shows was the problem of "THAT'S NOT WHAT IT'S LIKE."

And believe me, having worked as an associate producer on a sports studio show for 5 years, Sports Night was NOT WHAT IT WAS LIKE! ;D

It's difficult to enjoy a show about an industry you work in.

As for the stale, forced acting... yeah... I see what you mean, but I'm giving it a chance to evolve.

Hey -- I noticed Jamie Tarses is one of the executive producers -- the woman who's the basis for Amanda Peet's character on the hallowed Studio 60. That right there oughta be enough for some of you to give it a chance...

The lead's voiceovers remind me of those girls that sit next to you in the food court at the mall and natter endlessly about their meaningless lives. You know, the kind of conversations that make you feel dumber for having overheard?

Lugnuts, I told my wife that this show was kinda like Sex and the City, because she loved that show. She still wanted no part of it. I think that is part of the problem with My Boys. It's touching on a lot of target audiences, but I'm not sure it can satisfy any of them.

And this show isn't even close to Sports Night. I understand your point about the realism, but maybe we were willing to overlook things in Sports Night that were unrealistic becuase of the strong writing and the quality of the cast. This show has neither of those things going for it.

Is anyone going to point out that all the "Boys" on "My Boys" are a passel of dimwits? There was a subplot about plagiarism in last night's episode that came inches from being promising and then died a slow, painful death from sentences beginning with the word, "Dude."

Girly chick flick, but a great flick. I loved Cameron Diaz in that one.

How can you not laugh at the scene where they break into "I Say a Little Prayer" at the dinner table?
