So when does Andrew Bogut over Chris Paul join the short list with Bowie over Jordan?

Like, now?

Worst part about that choice? The ostensible reason for going with Bogut is that Bucks already had their young PG: T.J. Ford.
So they played one more year and then shipped him to Toronto.
Great call, fellas.

It actually was a pretty good call, given Ford's spinal cord.

Wake up, fella.
Was referring to picking Bogut over Paul because Ford was on the roster. (His back problems already were well known at the time).

Loved Skiles as a player, but he did a crappy job with the Bulls. Shocked at the hire.

Skiles actually did a very nice job with the Bulls. Up until this year they played really hard and quite well. That he could squeeze 49 wins out of last year's team was impressive.

Never, since there wasn't a single team in the NBA that would have taken Paul over Bogut at the time...

The same can't be said for Bowie over Jordan, Barkley and Perkins.

Agreed, the two aren't even remotely close. Paul didn't go to til the 4th pick and there was never even a question about him going 1st ahead of Bogut. And Bogut hasn't been that bad, he sure as hell isn't a Bowie type bust.

But you certainly can rip Atlanta's decision to take Marvin Williams over Paul at a time when they were overloaded with forwards and needed a point. Now THAT was an indefensible pick.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

Right on with this observation.

To grab Williams ahead of either Paul or Williams was colossally stupid, even back then. Looks even worse now, obviously.

As far as the Bucks, the building blocks on that team as it stands are Bogut, Yi and Sessions. I wouldn't give away Villanueva. I'd do anything I could to get out from under the contracts of Redd and Mo Williams.

Skiles' my-way-or-the-highway act will always produce short-term improvements, and always result in the entire roster tuning him out after about a season and a half.

He'd actually be better suited as a college coach, where you more or less automatically turn over 1/4 of your roster every year, and the players are more amenable to taking orders from a screaming authority figure. Multi-millionaire NBA players get tired of that **** eventually (and usually sooner).

But Skiles' own checkered past in regards to off-court hijinks in college will probably be a problem when he looks for college jobs.

If/when he gets whacked by the Bucks, that'll be strike three in the NBA.

And Bobby Simmons.

Certain teams need a taskmaster as a coach in the short term. It won't work long term, however.

We've seen what happens to my-way-or-the-highway coaches in other sports (see Williams, Gregg).

It seems like Garry Howard only writes columns when the Bucks fire or trade someone.
